Maybe yesterday was just a strange storm of visual coincidences, but it seemed to me that an awful lot of people were sitting outside on little folding chairs. Sometimes the sitting seemed motivated - for example, one woman seemed to have moved most of her office onto the sidewalk, swivel chair and coffee cup and all.
My only regret in life is that I didn't get a picture of the woman who had clearly opted to work on the sidewalk. But I did get one of this guy, who may have been waiting for a bus. Or he'd just elected to stop where he was and set up a nice little folding chair.
Is this something new? Is the world so sick of standing that we've started bringing our chairs outside as we would to a folk music festival? Is life a free concert now? I sure hope so.
